Overview

The Reveal senior showcase is a big deal for the engineering and design students at Johnson & Wales University. It’s the culmination of an entire academic design career where graduating students get to present their fully developed portfolios and personal brands. It’s also where several of these students get to extend their presentations by displaying work in the Bowen Center For Science And Innovation gallery space. Over the past two years, I marveled at how past students creatively displayed their talents for visitors, students, and professors. And this year, I took on the challenge.

As part of my senior showcase at Johnson & Wales University, I created an exhibit of my brand, which showcased design projects and photos from my portfolio. This showcase featured 20+ graduating student designers.

An Ambitious Goal

This project was one of my most ambitious and imaginative projects to date. While many students have used the senior showcase to expand on a single project or display multiple projects, I wanted to showcase myself. It was less about showing off my work and more about bringing people into my world for a moment.

A Thoughtful Stance

So, I considered the parts of me that stand out the most among my peers and what drives my creative process. Out of everything that came up, the most prominent characteristics were how I take things into perspective, how I put myself in the viewer’s shoes, how many ways I define myself, and how much I love telling stories.

Shifting your Perspective

While pooling my ideas together, I had an intriguing thought. “For people to remotely understand who I am as a creative, they will need to shift their position.” Those who did shift their stance received a clearer view of how I approach nearly every creative project. The projects I showcased reflect three core qualities of myself: my thirst for creative development, my attraction to dope apparel, and my love for art and nature.

Multiple Sides, Same Coin

My senior showcase exhibition takes the usual viewing experience one step further by giving it two ways to be viewed.
